WHAT IS ENDOCRINOLOGY?

There are many endocrine glands in our body (e.g., thyroid, pituitary, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal, testes, ovary, etc.). All of them secrete specific hormones, which have a wide range of functions in the human body. Over-secretion or under-secretion of hormones (hormonal imbalance) is a common occurrence. The science related to hormones & hormonal disorders is called Endocrinology

 

WHAT IS AN ENDOCRINOLOGIST?

Endocrinologist is the super-specialist who is expert in the diagnosis and treatment of hormonal disorders. Endocrinologist has the final word, while dealing with diabetes, thyroid & hormonal disorders in children as well as adults. It takes approximately 12 years of medical education to become endocrinologist (M.B.B.S. – 5.5 years, M.D. – 3 years, D.M. – 3 years).
